A golf outing is currently planned as an opening event . Training sessions will include "Implementing MasterFormat04" by Dennis Hall, FCSI, CCS. This will be a unique Region Conference in that, instead of a single chapter hosting the event, this will be collaborative effort by the Chicago, Northern Illinois, Madison, and Milwaukee Chapters. Here is a web page report: http://www.northstarcsi.com/ncrfun.htm ; and, here are a couple photo albums: http://www.northstarcsi.com/ncr03a ; and http://www.northstarcsi.com/ncr03b . Mr. Hall will discuss the development and use of CSI's MasterFormat 04 (MF04), scheduled for release next fall. Mr. Hall has been a major contributor to CSI technical documents, having previously served as chair of the Uniform Drawing System, CSI's contribution to the National CAD Standard. Sheldon Wolfe, FCSI, CCS, CCCA, who served on CSI's Institute Technical Committee (TechCom) from 1997 through 2001, will offer behind-the-scenes insights about the discussions and decisions that led to the creation of MF04 and the new Project Resource Manual, which will replace CSI's current Manual of Practice later this year. Sheldon, who returned to TechCom last year, will also briefly discuss current and future Institute technical programs. We'll also have a celebration of Jerry Putnam's Fellowship. Jerry A. Putnam, FCSI, CCS, was elevated to Fellowship in CSI in Chicago. Fellows are nominated by their colleagues and selected by CSI's Jury of Fellows in recognition of their accomplishments in improving construction specifications, advancing construction technology, educating people in the construction industry, or advancing the goals of the Institute. From the editor...Next month our Chapter's electronic publications will have a new look. This newsletter, Specifics Lite, will have new colors and a slightly different appearance but the content and purpose remain the same. The change in appearance is related to the change in our new web site that will go on-line in early July. And, the timing of the new web site coincides with the beginning of our fiscal year and the new assignments to the Board of Directors and Committees. Watch for the new assignments on the new web site in July. The new web site will be hosted by Tectonic Network http://www.tectonicnetwork.com. They are now creating the initial HTML pages for us under our direction. After the site is put on-line, we will edit and maintain the content of the site as we have in the past except that Tectonic Network will administer on-line advertising on our web pages. Much of the content of our existing web site will be moved to the new site; however, some of the navigation paths will be revised as we requested and the content will be updated for the new fiscal year. Continue to use the www.csi-msp.org address. If you are now using this address to reach our site, then you will not have to change your link. When the new site is ready, your use of this link will automatically direct your browser to the correct server with the new web site. Effective immediately, the existing web site is no longer updated. Although frozen, it will remain on line continuously for several more months. When the new web site goes on-line in July, it will provide a link to the old site.

CSI New Member Spotlight Yes, that is a CDT certification for Todd. He is not our typical new member. Todd has been unable to renew his membership for the past two years because he has been out of town. Todd is a reservist with the US Navy and he has been serving us Americans actively since he was called up in November 2001. Todd had completed his active duty tour in 1990 and was serving on annual training in Norway when the cowardly attacks on the WTC destroyed so many innocent lives.
Todd, an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and camping, called
his wife of 10 years, Christine, immediately after he was
called up. Within days, this Construction Mechanic First
Class (E6) was on his way to
Civilian life for Todd finds him as an Architectural Sales Representative for Aggregate Industries in Eagan. In addition to his CDT Certification, he is also a Certified Consultant of Concrete Masonry. Toddís degree in Land-Use Planning, eventually brought him to Aggregate Industries where he quickly escalated into his current position. He was such a valued employee that Aggregate Industries supplemented his military pay for a full year while he was away. The US Navy awarded Agg. Industries the ESGR, an honor given to corporations that offer superior support to their employees as they serve our country. It was a real pleasure to meet Todd. This Seabee, who served in Desert Storm as well as his more recent tour, has great pride in our country. He commented several times that, each time he is called, he is ready to serve us citizens as he has done in the past. We are lucky to have a patriot such as Todd and generous corporations such as Aggregate Industries in our organization and I thank them and others for protecting all Americans everywhere. Todd is looking forward to once again becoming active with CSI. He is also looking forward to convincing Christine of the joys of camping. (Good Luck, Todd.) Look for him at upcoming meetings and events and donít forget to say Thanks. Jeff Rutz |
