From the President, February 2003
After the Big Show, There's More!

As the sun set on this year's Construction Showcase, due to the efforts program directors Lisa Turner and Paula Nyquist, another gold star appeared under this event's "Well Done!" column. Our Chapter members and guests were treated to a wealth of information from our exhibitors on new and existing products displayed in the Exhibit Hall. The attendees were also engaged by three very insightful, educational presentations given by our slate of speakers. Although I attempted to visit and thank each of our exhibitors for representing their products in this show, there were a few that I missed. The Chapter extends special thanks to all of our exhibitors and to our speakers, Dr. David A. Wyss, Chief Economist for Standard & Poor's, our keynote speaker; Aaron Parker, AIA, B. Aaron Parker & Associates/Metropeligo; and Paul Doherty, CSI, CDT, AIA, Managing Director for The Digit Group, for helping to make Construction Showcase 2003 a success.

Our February program involves an open discussion intended to highlight issues that will enable architects and designers to communicate and work more effectively with engineers. This appears to be a sure fit for our design professional members, but will also benefit our industry professional members. Program information and details can be found in this newsletter or on the Chapter website.

By now everyone should be aware of the new format for the national convention and that "The CSI Show" will be held in Chicago during April this year. The "CSI University" will be held in Philadelphia in June. The new schedule for the convention means it is not too early to start making your arrangements to attend this event. Since the convention is being hosted by the Chicago Chapter, one of our member chapters in the North Central Region, this will be a convenient location for the Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter to show our support.

Speaking of our neighbors in the North Central Region (NCR), this year's Region Conference will be hosted by the Twin Ports Chapter in Duluth this summer. Gayle Taylor, CSI, CDT, Twin Ports Chapter President, informed me that the dates for the Region Conference listed in our Chapter information are incorrect. The NCR Conference 2003 dates are July 31 through August 3, 2003. Twin Ports Chapter is working on an exciting program for the conference, so mark your calendars and stay tuned for additional information on this event.

In addition to the events noted, there are also monthly Chapter meetings and events that will continue until June. Even though our membership has a wide variety of concerns that can span the spectrum of interests in the construction industry, one or more of the action-packed list of upcoming events should spark an interest for everyone. Your input is the ingredient that makes these events a learning experience for all.
