The CSI Show in Chicago is revving up and hopefully, you have made plans to attend taking advantage of this annual opportunity to load-up on educational seminars and construction product information. We are invited to join in on the celebration of achievements by our local Chapter members and the achievements of CSI members around the nation. We are fortunate to be in a chapter with so many hard working individuals who develop the quality programs and events in our own Chapter and Region, and on to Institute level, which results in their recognition by the Institute. Many of our fellow members will be making the trek across the stage to accept awards honoring their achievements. Two of our members, Gail Manning, CSI, CDT (Plan Reviewer, City of Minneapolis Inspections); and Michael Chambers, FCSI, CCS, FAIA (MCA Specifications) will be conducting educational seminars during the convention. We will also have an opportunity to see several speakers that have presented at our Chapter programs this year, including Paul Doherty, CSI, CDT, AIA; Dennis Hall, FCSI, CCS, CCCA, AIA; Charles Rick Green, RA, CSI, CCS, CCCA; and Dr. David A. Wyss, Chief Economist (Standard and Poor's), delivering the keynote address at the Construct America "Opening General Session". To get the most updated information on The CSI Show, go to our Chapter website and select "Convention". Our March Chapter program on the topic of "Substitutions - Pre-Award in Alternative Delivery Systems" provided insight into the benefits and liabilities to each party of a construction contract through a panel composed of an owner, James Miles, Sherman Associates; an architect, Randy Buldoc, Ellerbe Becket; a contractor/ construction manager, Jim Felton, Ryan Construction; and a subcontractor/ supplier, Bill Hall, CSI, Hon. AIA, W.L. Hall Company. Thanks to Wendel Chamberlin, CSI, CCS, AIA for his efforts researching, developing, and moderating this topic that affects everyone. The March program was well attended, but based on the registrations for the program, maybe too well attended. Thanks to Bruce Saline for resolving the trouble spots by providing additional seating and meals in order to keep the event on track. As important as it is to show up for the program when you register for a Chapter program, it is equally important to register on time for programs you plan to attend. For the Program Committee and those that take on the responsibility of planning these events, the financial success or failure of a program can be tied to having an accurate count of meals ordered without paying for unused meals or needing to provide additional meals at the last minute. To help maintain our level of programs, we need to keep our costs as low as possible. Please help our event coordinators provide you the best service possible by being responsible with your program registrations. With the convention, the first half of April will be a busy one. The April Chapter meeting on "Construction Law" will occur the Monday following the CSI Show. Don't forget to register for the Chapter program early, especially if you are planning to attend the convention. Kermit Duncan, CSI, CCCA, AIA |
