And the Award Goes To ...

The Minneapolis ñSt. Paul Chapter is proud to present the 2004 Chapter Awards Banquet May 10 at the Mill City Museum.

The 2004 Chapter Awards program will be present in the historic Minneapolis milling district's Mill City Museum. Mill City Museum chronicles the flour milling industry that dominated world flour production for roughly a half-century and fueled the growth of Minneapolis, recognized across the nation and around the world as ìMill City.î

Built within the ruins of a National Historic Landmark ó the Washburn A Mill ó the museum provides a multi-sensory, interactive journey. The story of flour milling and its impact on Minneapolis, the nation, and the world comes to life through the eight-story Flour Tower and other hands-on exhibits. Mill City Museum is the latest addition to the Minnesota Historical Societyís network of museums and historic sites.

This yearís program is highlighted by presentation of chapter awards that recognize the accomplishments of chapter members and firms that have contributed so much to the development of our chapter and its members.

CSI New Member Spotlight

Chad Hanson ñ Certainteed Corporation

Chad Hanson joined Certainteed Corporation in September of 2003 and signed on with us at CSI shortly thereafter. A Minnetonka native, Chad is the Territory Manager for "Form-A-Drain", a foundation forming and drainage system. He joined CSI in hopes of developing professional relationships and to become more involved in the design community. Aside from his career, which has taught him much about several aspects of construction, Chad spends time at home with his wife as they try to keep up with their two daughters.

Chad also keeps in shape by competing on the golf course, racquetball court, or hockey arena on a regular basis. He enjoys golfing, especially with his wife. (I did not ask who wins.) In discussion, I soon realized that his true passion, however, is hockey. Chad has already introduced his eldest daughter to the sport and you can find him on weekends, stick in hand, coaching her and her fellow Mites.

Chadís Dad had him lace up his skates about the same time he first laced up his shoes. In true Minnesota spirit, Chad was soon spending a lot of time honing his skills. A very humble man, at some time in our discussion I learned that, as a sophomore at UW-River Falls, Chad was a Center for the NCAA Division III Champions. His career on the ice brought him to Germany after college where he played for two years professionally. He enjoyed his time in Europe but eventually returned to the US. Chad now plays at a bit more leisurely pace on Thursday nights to keep up his skills.

While growing his territory, raising two pre-schoolers, and the rest, Chad also enjoys time on the boat on Lake Minnetonka and on the river. The Hanson family also enjoys traveling and recently flew to Naples, FL to visit with family for the Easter holiday. Chad, who aspires to own a restaurant someday, has a lot of knowledge and ambition. He will be a great addition to our Chapter. I encourage my fellow members to take an opportunity to visit with Chad and to welcome him to CSI. (Better to meet him at a meeting as a fellow CSIíer than on the ice as a defenseman.)
